 Biomedical research has entered an era driven by precision medicine and aided with automated data collection. This leads to multifaceted challenges to researchers and administrators, including data warehousing, data standardization, text extraction, storage and linking of photographs, omics data, biospecimens, etc.I will describe our ongoing effort at the Institute for Computational Biology at Case Western Reserve University to build an infrastructure for a biobank that will include data from three major hospital systems in Cleveland: Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, and MetroHealth.I also will talk about an analysis project using data from BioVU, a biobank built by Vanderbilt University. In this project, we analyzed nearly 30,000 patients born in the last 100 years for whom we have exom SNP chip data. We identified a changing composition of the patients' genomes towards admixture, especially for those born after 1980s. This may be partly due to increased inter-racial marriages in South United States after desegregation, and partly due to demographic changes in the last several decades.
